2020Soundsystem - Live at Studio B

Thanks to Clash magazine, their new podcast features 2020Soundsystem's live set from Studio B last year. I was at this show and it was absolutely phenomonal. If you've never checked out 2020 before, do yourself a favor and download this immediately. "Started by hugely influential DJ and producer Ralph Lawson and drummer Danny Ward (who’s played with the likes of AIM, Filia Brazilia and The Pharcyde), 2020Soundsystem are a live band who mix Lawson’s expertly crafted electronics with live drums, bass, keys and vocals. The result is a heady combination of numerous house and techno flavours melded with tight, live funk and precision percussion.

The Studio B performance is a mix of the band’s own material, taken from previous releases and upcoming second album ‘Falling’, and live interpretations of choice tracks from other artists, including 20:20 Vision labelmates such as Bobby Peru and The Youngsters.

In their live sets, the band manage to find the perfect mix of the well-crafted track and the experimental jam, with each track flowing seamlessly into the next, adding to the sense that what you’re hearing is very much a live experience from musicians at the top of their game. As a result of this, 2020Soundsystem have already established themselves as a formidable live act. Listening to their Studio B performance, it’s not hard to see why.

Simian Mobile Disco - 10,000 Horses Can't Be Wrong (Original Mix)!

Yesterday I posted the radio edit of 10,000 Horses Can't Be Wrong..imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning to see this hit the web. Full original mix, 6 minutes of awesome in all its glory. No Pete Tong, no radio edit, no crazy British voices over our drops...can you say hell yes? I have a feeling producers are going to have a remix field day with this one.

Lullabies in the Dark - Iridium

Here's a great track to enjoy this dreary sunday from Lullabies in the Dark, formed of Vito De Luca of Aeroplane and Jim Adam. The original Iridium mix is most definitely in the vain on Aeroplane's other work, uplifting guitar riffs, soaring synths and everything else you've come to expect. While the original mix is indeed fantastic, it's the Superpitcher remix that really stands out. This remix is much darker and extends the length of the track to 10 minutes. Easily one of my favorite releases from last year.

Curses! - The Deep End (Holy Ghost! Remix)

Everyone loves a little bit of disco and this track does not disappoint. If disco isn't your thing, don't be afraid to give it a listen, it's got a very nice electronic dance beat that melds quite well with the subdued vocals by LCD’s vocalist Nancy Whang.

Simian Mobile Disco - 10,000 Horses Can't Be Wrong (BBC Radio Edit)

Last week Pete Tong dropped Simian Mobile Disco's unreleased track "10,000 Horses Can't Be Wrong" on his BBC radio show, and simply put, this track is astounding. The radio edit kind of ruins it a bit "DIS IS PETE TONG!" but you'll certainly get the idea. If this is anything close to what we have to look forward to on the rest of the unreleased album, then we should all be very excited. It's got an extremely minimal techno feel to it and when we finally hear the drop without it being masacred by the radio edit, it's going to light up the dance floor. Be sure to check them out at the Highline Ballroom in NYC on April 25th, 2009.

This Blog's Taking Off Like an Aeroplane

So with the first post on my new blog here, I figured why not start with what I can't stop listening to in the last few weeks: Aeroplane. This Belgium based duo is pretty much solely responsible for my love of Balearic or nu disco. Below you'll find a compilation of almost all the remixes they have done. If you follow Aeroplane, you've probably heard most of these on their mixes, but here they are all tracked out. Their remix of Low Motion Disco's "Love Love Love" has been on repeat for at least a week. It is an extremely happy and uplifting track that just gets downright triumphant at the breakdown....with a certain Mike Tyson's Punchout vibe going for it (trust me and listen).
